How to set up Open Dental DocPath in Kasper Config App

Learn how to set the correct Open Dental document path (OpenDentImages) in the Kasper Config App.

Updated over a month ago

When you might see this alert

If Open Dental is configured to use a different server path (instead of the default C:\OpenDentImages\), you’ll see an alert when you open the Kasper Config App:

⚠ (Technical) Why is this happening?

By default, Kasper runs as a system service on your server so it can always attempt to run when you turn your server on. However, Microsoft does not usually allow system services to access network paths. To fix this, you will simply set the hardcoded path for Kasper to find.

How to set up the hardcoded path to 'OpenDentImages'

  1. If the Kasper Config App warns you about a server path, click “Yes” on the alert window. Otherwise, you can manually set correct path by selecting the Settings icon and setting it yourself

  2. A File Explorer window will open automatically if you are doing it from the start. Otherwise, if you are doing it from Settings, Kasper will let you know where Kasper is reading the path from. Click "Set a Path"

  3. Select the folder where OpenDental stores its files, such as patient PDFs and images. This folder is usually named OpenDentImages but its location may differ. Consult with your IT personal to find the correct OpenDentImages folder before continuing if you are unsure.

  4. Once you have selected the OpenDentImages folder, click Yes.

  5. Finally click OK

❗Note: If you accidentally selected a folder that is NOT named OpenDentImages, you’ll see an error message that looks like the screenshot below. Simply click "Ok" and the File Explorer will reappear for you to select the correct folder.
